The largest district is the Wiscasset School District which serves the towns of Dresden, Edgecomb, Whitefield and Wiscasset. This district was created in 1805 and has since grown to include five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The other six districts are Boothbay-Bremen School District, Bristol School District, Damariscotta-Newcastle School District, Monhegan Plantation School District, Nobleboro-South Bristol School District and Waldoboro-Union School District. Each of these districts has its own elementary schools and some have middle or high schools as well.
