Additionally, there are numerous attractions for tourists such as Waimea Canyon State Park, Hanalei Bay State Park and Na Pali Coast State Park that offer visitors breathtaking views of nature at its finest. Kauai County, Hawaii is served by four public school districts: Kauai District, Waimea District, Kapaa District and Hanalei District. The Kauai district serves the largest population in the county with over 7,000 students enrolled in its schools. This district focuses on providing a rigorous curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking skills, problem solving strategies and communication skills. In addition to its academic offerings, the district provides extracurricular activities such as band, chorus and sports teams for students to participate in. The Waimea district is comprised of five elementary schools and one middle school that serve over 2,500 students. This district has a strong emphasis on science and technology education as well as providing numerous extracurricular activities including robotics clubs and after-school programs. Additionally, the district offers support services such as counseling and special education programs to ensure all students have access to the resources they need to succeed. Kapaa district is comprised of three elementary schools that serve approximately 2,800 students. This district strives to create an environment where all students can reach their full potential by offering a variety of educational opportunities including advanced placement courses and dual credit classes with local colleges. The Kapaa district also provides extracurricular activities such as athletics, student government and other clubs for students to get involved in outside of the classroom. The Hanalei District serves over 1,400 students through two elementary schools and one middle school. This district places a strong emphasis on arts education by offering music classes at all grade levels as well as art classes beginning at third grade level. Additionally, the Hanalei District offers numerous extracurricular activities such as robotics clubs and after-school programs for children of all ages to participate in outside of class time.
