According to Itypetravel, Hardee County is located in the center of Florida and was established in 1921. The county was created from the parts of DeSoto and Manatee counties and was named after former Governor of Florida, Cary A. Hardee. The county has a total area of 598 square miles and is home to over 27,000 people as of 2019. The area that makes up Hardee County has been inhabited for centuries by various Native American tribes including the Seminole, Creek, and Choctaw tribes. These tribes were eventually displaced by settlers who began to arrive in the area during the mid-1800s. The county’s economy initially revolved around cattle ranching and citrus production with some minor industry also developing during this period. In the early 1900s, Hardee County began to experience significant growth due to its proximity to Tampa Bay which had become an important port city for both local residents and those coming from other parts of the state or country. The population continued to grow throughout the 20th century as more people moved into Hardee County for its agricultural opportunities as well as its recreational amenities such as fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and golfing. Today, Hardee County continues to be an important part of central Florida’s economy with its agricultural industry still playing a prominent role in providing jobs for local residents as well as supporting other industries such as tourism which continues to bring people into the county each year. It is also home to several historic sites that tell stories about its past including Peace River State Park which contains artifacts from ancient Native American cultures that once called this area home.
