Suriname Labor Market

Most of the working Surinamese are in the service sector. Almost half are public employees, while about one in ten work in agriculture.

Employees can freely join unions and these are relatively active in politics. Government employees lack the right to strike. There are occasional reports of employers refusing to conclude collective agreements.
