Saint Lucia has problems with high unemployment, especially among young people. Since the global financial crisis in 2008, it has commuted around 20 percent. Among young people it is more than twice as high.

Most of the workforce is found in the service sector – the tourism industry alone employs about half the workforce. Around a quarter are employed in industry, while one-tenth is working in agriculture and fishing.
